The secondary school (grades 7-9) established at the former Carden School site on Magnolia Blvd., next to the Sepulveda Basin, had access to an expansive nearby field that provided ample space for a competitive athletics program. On its own campus for the first time, the junior high began to establish its identity and that included cheerleaders at games. The 7th grade cheer squad is seen in this photo from the 1980-81 school year.
