13 - Arithmetic Lesson, Beverly Place

In this classroom, students at the Beverly Place campus are having a lesson in addition. This interior photograph gives a glimpse of the homey feeling of the school room, with its wooden wainscoting and paned windows framed by floral curtains. The teacher has written the date, “Friday, April 23, 1948,” in beautiful script at the top of the chalkboard. Penmanship was a graded subject and considered to be an essential skill.
