04 - Building Sound Bodies

Carl Curtis, seen here helping several youngsters develop their ball-handling skills, personally headed up the physical education department of his school. In addition to the regular academic curriculum, one hour of daily “physical training” (physical education) was required of all students. Students were exposed to an enormous variety of activities, including swimming, diving, water polo, life-saving, wrestling, boxing, handball, volleyball, football, baseball, track and field, gymnastics, acrobatics, archery, and badminton, as well as ballroom dancing.
