03 - Carl Curtis School Classroom, 1920s

When the new school opened in 1925, it taught children in Grades 1 through 9. In 1933, an "Outdoor Kindergarten" was added. The school's enrollment was initially limited to 60 students; the curriculum followed that of California public schools; and all teachers were certified by the State of California. Schoolrooms, like the one in this photo, were fitted with desks having seats and desktops that could be adjusted to maximize the comfort and health of each student.
