Here, we see the 2015-16 Debate Team displaying the "hardware” they won at a recent tournament, along with their Coaches, Debbie Taus-Kahn and Ginger Healy.
Debate has a long and proud history at Curtis, beginning in 2004 when Headmaster Peter Smailes greenlighted the activity for a group of 5th-grade students coached by teacher Debbie Taus-Kahn. Now in its twenty-third year, Ms. Taus-Kahn continues to direct the Curtis debate program, which is a 6th-grade extracurricular opportunity. Over the years, Curtis debaters have won numerous team and individual speaker awards in regional and national competitions. One of our earliest 6th-grade teams went on to help found a Middle School Debate program at Harvard-Westlake, and many Curtis Debate Team alumni have continued to debate through high school and college, winning some of the most prestigious tournaments and awards and founding organizations that teach and inspire younger students to become the next generation of debaters.
