First-Ever STEAM-Maker Day

Curtis held its first-ever, all school, all day STEAM-Maker Event. Our students experienced exploration zones all over campus where they experimented with new skills and materials, and expert zones, where they demonstrated what they learned to create or do.
The STEAM-Maker event connects with the Intellectual Literacy strand of Curtis's Envision Our Future Strategic Plan and is designed to teach students how to develop their critical thinking skills in a fully integrated STEAM curriculum.

The action-packed day included:
  • Designing and flying paper airplanes
  • Creating a piece of art with Pointillism
  • Building Jitterbug machines
  • Weaving yarn snakes
  • Engineering electrical flat circuits
  • Designing and testing straw rockets
  • Exploring plant and butterfly life cycles
  • Creating stop-motion videos
  • Learning to make silk-screens
  • Building marble roller coasters
  • Constructing periscopes
  • Making density tubes
