Community Resources & Support for LA Wildfire Victims

The recent wildfires in Los Angeles County have had a devastating impact, and our thoughts are with everyone in the Curtis community and beyond who has been affected. In times like this, we find strength in our enduring connections and stand together in care and support for one another.

Please stay safe and refer to this list of resources to keep informed, obtain the help you and your loved ones need, and assist those around you. These resources are provided for your use at your own discretion. Feel free to continue to check back for updates. 

For Impacted Families:

  1. Contact your Insurance Company to work through your policy claim. 
  2. If issues arise during the insurance process, contact the state
  3. Department of Insurance at (800) 927-4357 for assistance. 
    • If you need insurance assistance, feel free to reach out to Jennifer Johnson, director of advancement, for a community referral. 
  4. After you’ve notified your insurance, apply for a FEMA grant.

Clothing & Food:

World Central Kitchen (WCK) - WCK is distributing free hot meals to first responders and the public at several locations in Southern California in response to the wildfires. Visit the site to find the location closest to you.

Emotional & Mental Support:

Psychological First Aid for Students and Teachers - Resource provided by the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement.
Wildfire Resources - Resources offered by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. 
LA County Department of Mental Health - Call 1-800-854-7771

Documents:

Guide to Recovering Documents - Comprehensive guide to recovering important documents like driver's licenses, Social Security cards, and certificates.
Social Security Card - Complete the Application for a Social Security Card (Form SS-5) on the Social Security website. Requires another form of ID, such as a driver’s license.
Birth, Death, or Marriage Certificates - Visit your local courthouse or county health department. Additional information available at the National Center for Health Statistics website.

Financial Resources:

Tax Extension for Wildfire Victims - The IRS and the State of California will provide a tax extension for individuals and businesses affected by the devastating wildfires. For more information on this announcement, please read here.
Inclusive Action – An emergency fund for outdoor workers, including street vendors, landscapers, and recyclers affected by the wildfires. 
Small Business Administration Loans - Disaster loans for small businesses affected by wildfires or other disasters.
Motion Picture and Television Fund is working to provide financial assistance and a multitude of social services to working and retired members of the entertainment community. For more information, call the hotline at 323-634-3888.
Will Rogers Motion Pictures Pioneers Foundation is providing emergency funds for members of the theatrical distribution and exhibition community.
MusiCares is providing financial assistance to members of the music community.

Upcoming Events

“Parenting During the LA Wildfires—A Live Conversation with Dr. Becky”
The Archer School for Girls is partnering with Dr. Becky Kennedy to offer an event for those impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles, on Thursday, January 16, from 2:00-2:45 pm PST, on Zoom. Dr. Becky will help parents guide their children to process what has happened, answer their children’s questions, and take care of themselves and their families emotionally during this challenging time.
