Middle School Athletics
Welcome to the Curtis Athletics Department!
All the coaches are excited to have the opportunity to work with your children this year. The Curtis School Athletics Department takes great pride in the unique approach we take to introducing competitive sports to our students. It is something we do with care, attention to skill development and sportsmanship and a keen focus on helping children learn how to compete in a culture of camaraderie where both winning and losing have important lessons to learn.
As part of the San Fernando Valley Private School League, Curtis is one of forty-two schools from West Los Angeles to Thousand Oaks. In this league, children compete against students in their grades from other schools in basketball, flag football, swimming, soccer, volleyball, baseball, golf and track & field. Every child gets involved and teams are organized by skill level to give everyone a chance to play, grow and improve. The sports are organized by season:
Fall
Boys Flag Football
Girls Basketball
Co-ed Swimming
Winter
Boys Basketball
Girls Soccer
Spring
Boys Baseball 4 - 6
Girls Volleyball 4 - 6
Boys Soccer 4 -6
Boys and Girls Track & Field 4 - 6
Co-ed Golf 5 - 6
To prepare for the games and competitions, students in grades 4 - 6 practice their sport during Physical Education. Games are scheduled for after school hours. All the Curtis coaches are committed to making sure the children are prepared for the transition from Lower School and we strive to make it an exciting, positive experience. Participation is over 99%, reflecting the universal success Curtis has found with our approach.
Over the years, we have found that students graduate from Curtis with a love for sports, compassion for their teammates and opponents, and an appreciation for the importance of discipline in athletics. These are life lessons the coaches take great pride in sharing with the children. We look forward to carrying on this tradition during the 2007 - 2008 school year.
See you at the games!
