Lower School Technology
Technology at Curtis is not taught as a separate discipline, but rather technology skills are absorbed through the usage of computers in the classroom and the lab. Our focus is on teaching computer concepts and skills that can be applied regardless of platform or application. The technology specialist works closely with the classroom teacher to develop lessons in support of the curriculum and teachers remain in the lab with their students during the lab sessions. The technology program focuses on six major concepts:
- Technnology Awareness
- Keyboarding
- Word Processing
- Paint/Draw/Graphic Skills
- Network Awareness
- Introduction to Multimedia
Middle School Technology
Middle School students learn to work collaboratively, and to make their own choices and connections regarding what technology tools will best serve their purpose to understand, present, and locate information. The focus is on developing computer concepts and skills, based on the ISTE standards, that can be applied regardless of platform or application. Through this process, students become lifelong learners. The technology teacher works closely with the classroom teacher to develop lessons and integrate the use of technology in a way that enhances the curriculum. Areas of focus include word processing, graphic design, network awareness, multimedia software usage, internet usage, spreadsheet design & analysis, and an understanding of the social and ethical implications of technology use and misuse. Students are also able to post articles on the school website.
