Community Service
Lower School
Seedlings is a campus based community service opportunity for 1st - 3rd graders. This volunteer group of Lower School students meet twice a month at lunchtime. Experiential Education Director Charley Martin and the Parents Association Community Service Committee organize projects which allow students to use their talents to assist those in need. Some of the activities students have participated in this year include decorating placemats and cards for Children's Hospital, preparing Thanksgiving bags to distribute food to the homeless through St. Joseph Center and creating Fall themed napkin rings for underprivileged children for Para Los Ninos. Seedlings is the Lower School version of Middle School Roots and Shoots, a Curtis community service program associated with the Jane Goodall Institute, whose mission is to inspire children to help people, animals and the environment.
Middle School
The Curtis School Roots and Shoots Program is for students in 4th - 6th grade. Students may choose to participate in a variety of activities arranged by the Parents Association Community Service committee or they may plan their own projects under the supervision of our Experiential Education Director, Charley Martin. Roots and Shoots is part of the Jane Goodall Institute and includes youth groups across the globe. Middle School students work in conjunction with St. Joseph's Center, and have the opportunity to contribute through classroom community service field trips.
